WRS Tech is a Marine and Offshore recruitment specialist and through the act of supporting our clients activities we operate globally. Finding the right staff or contractors usually involves arranging either a relocation or liaising with our clients who supply temporary accommodation.
The daily commute and location of a job are always an important factor in our daily discussions with clients and candidates: a soul crushing or overly long commute can often lead to a job search in the first place, and good transport links are seen as a boon to filling a vacancy.
The UK Office for National Statistics (ONS) reported an interesting fact in its most recent consensus:
“The average distance commuted to work in England and Wales increased from 13.4 km in 2001 to 15.0 km in 2011.”
Due to the specialist technical recruitment WRS Tech conducts and the geographic skill clusters of the Marine and Offshore Industry both Nationally and Internationally, WRS Tech often sees larger commuting times and distances.
There are limits to what is a sustainable commute and daily commuting times above 45mins to an hour are often not sustainable for the majority of professionals. All of WRS Tech Consultants live within a 30 minute distance from our offices between Portsmouth and Southampton.
Offshore and ship yard work often involves accommodation close to hand (or on the asset itself) but can see international travel and time away from home.
WRS Tech’s consultants spend time as part of their qualification of candidates discussing routes to work, suitable relocation locations and the realities of relocating to a new location.
This is a vital part of the qualification process as our consultants have found that location and by extension the commute is a bigger factor in most instances over salaries due to the global salary structures of the industries we support.
Please contact WRS Tech on +44(0)23 92 633 952 to discuss the career an contract options in the Marine and Offshore industries to either reduce a tortuous commute or to relocate to a desired location.
