The IMO will be celebrating the fourth edition of its global campaign: Day of the Seafarer today, held every year on 25 June to commemorate the Diplomatic Conference which met in Manila to adopt milestone revisions to the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watch keeping for Seafarers (the STCW Convention) and to celebrate the worlds seafarers.
For this year’s campaign, the IMO has invited the public to complete the sentence “Seafarers brought me………..” with a word denoting an object or something specific that has benefited them and post it on social media using the hashtag #thankyouseafarers (Something we encourage anyone reading this to do!)
The aim is to increase awareness about the roles, responsibilities and benefits supplied by the world seafarers and to thank the men and woman whom have chosen a career at sea. The IMO also hopes to increase the regulatory and working conditions for the worlds seafarers.
