My First Week
Last week was my first week in the expansive world of Marine recruitment. If you know anything about recruitment I’m sure you’re aware of the extensive amount of training, learning and development which lays ahead of me!
My plan is that with determination and knowledge I can, with the help of the great colleagues I have met, excel at WRS Tech and offer my candidates a fantastic service.
On Monday I came in to WRS and was welcomed to the office by the experienced team that made me at ease and started my introduction to the marine industry. I spent the morning having a training session with my director James Dryden, and the busy pace of the office saw me jumping in the deep end under his supervision.
My week consisted of specific training programmes along with phoning candidates to learn more about their roles in the industry and trying to piece together how best to represent them to our clients. I was given the project of finding a contractor for one of our premium clients and on my 4th day in the office my (great) candidate had an interview and the feedback was extremely positive so exciting times for me and my candidate!
Through out my first week I have worked hard to learn about the Marine industry which is a challenging task! The industry is fantastically interesting and ranges from big, technical commercial ships to beautiful sleek luxury Yachts. The people whom I have spoken to the industry so far, both clients and candidates, have been incredibly supportive and understanding. The guys at WRS Tech have really inspired me with their passion for the Marine industry which is something I am beginning to share.
On Friday I went down to a client shipyard, where I was introduced to the Clients project team and saw first-hand a premium ship being re-built – with a small team progressing the build before the full on refit takes place in a couple of weeks. It was really great to see first-hand how they are made, not only did I see the ship in the yard but I also got to walk aboard and down to the engine room – I got a real insight to the ship building industry and the roles that I’ll be recruiting for down there and for other clients around the world.
I am now looking forward to my second week, with plenty of roles on and a long client visit on Friday, it’s time to get recruiting...
