The Shipping industry is responsible for about 2% of all global carbon emissions . At a time where our carbon footprint and it’s effects on climate change are a hot topic could the way we power our ocean going vessels make a difference?
The industry is suggesting that using ammonia, a compound commonly used in plant fertilizer, could replace the diesel used in ships’ engines.
Ammonia, unlike diesel, burns without CO2 emissions. However, further research needs to be complete to identify technology that can make ammonia without creating any CO2 to ensure the right impact is made.
