On June the 29th 2019 – thousands of sailors will wake up on the Solent, drink a coffee or tea whilst forcing down a bacon roll - trying to shake off last night’s drink. This will all be preparation for the 2019 Round The Island Race – a 50 mile, navigationally challenging yacht race around the Isle of Wight. Competitors of all skill level and on all size of vessel will turn up to take part in this sometimes thrilling, action filled and beautiful race. Not only do you have to dodge thousands of boats at the start line, but also sand bars, buoys/navigational marks, rocks and even sunken vessels (Commodore). As you travel around “the island”, you encounter the wind from all angles offering you all close haul, close reach, beam reach, broad reach & straight runs perfect for the spinnaker – doing all of this while overlooked by a number helicopters flying over, crowds of people cheering you on from the shore, Beken vessels taking your photo, it’s pretty special.
