Global Wind Energy Council predicts that by 2023 Wind Power will generate an increasing amount of the worlds energy needs. Currently the three countries that lead offshore wind energy is the UK, Germany and China.
As of now, the UK has 34% of all offshore wind farms (the largest of any single country in the world) with its largest offshore field is accommodated off the coast of the North West of England. By 2030 offshore wind will generate one-third of the UK’s energy, and will account for an estimated 27,000 new jobs.
Germany’s offshore wind farm started to produce results in 2009 and since then has grown to become one of the largest producers. Germany has installed 136 new wind turbines in 2018 and has a total of 28% of offshore installations, it even has links to supply power to Denmark.
Being one of the most powerful countries in the world, China is now forecasted to become the leader of the global offshore wind market. If China carry on installing offshore power at the rate they did in 2018 than their gigawatts will go from two to four per year by 2025.
