Pros and Cons of Moving to the Netherlands
WRS Tech has a good pedigree of international recruitment we have placed candidates and contractors around the world in line with the requirements of the international marine and offshore markets we service.
One of the locations our recruitment consultants have unsurprisingly repeatedly recruited for is the Netherlands, a country with a rich maritime and shipping history.
Holland is internationally well known as a rich, prosperous, liberal western European country but many of the people we speak to may not have considered the Netherlands as a place to live and work.
The purpose of this blog post is to highlight some of the benefits and considerations of relocating to the Netherlands.
Pro: - Accommodation
This is particularly applicable to our candidates looking to emigrate from the UK.
Accommodation in Holland is typically of a very high standard and of a reasonable price. It is possible to choose from a diverse style of accommodation types to suit your individual needs to either rent or buy.
Cons:
The property market in Holland can move swiftly and properties (either rentals or sales) can be snapped up sharper than elsewhere in the world. Also the tendency for apartment to be offered as either furnished, unfurnished or shell (where nothing is included at all including white goods) can be confusing and lead to unexpected outcomes to the initiated!
Pro: - Lifestyle
The attractive lifestyle is probably the biggest pros for relocating to the Netherlands.
Holland as a rule is conductive to a very rewarding social life which caters for the full spectrum of personnel interests as well as a convivial community atmosphere.
Holland boasts one of Europe’s lowest levels of unemployment and crime as well being famous for the use of bicycles in its town centres and the open community spaces.
Holland also has some of the best Health care and education systems in the world along with a world beating public transport system as befits a nation of travellers.
Cons:
The cons are quite small with regard to the lifestyle aspects of living in Holland when weighed in balance.
The odd irresponsible cyclist in city centres and music and cultural festivals taking up car parking and space in urban areas are a small annoyance when compared to the benefits.
The overriding benefits of relocating to the Netherlands is the professional benefits with working with often industry leading Dutch companies, especially with the Marine and Shipping industries.
Holland has some of the best Engineering Consultancies, Shipping companies and Shipyards in the world.
The opportunity to work with the world’s best should never be overlooked especially when it involves the extra opportunity to relocate to one of Europe’s most egalitarian and welcoming countries.
